Harrogate Town pounce for unsettled Southport captain Luke Foster

Foster has joined on a contract at the CNG Stadium until the end of the season and should be available to face Gloucester in front of Town's home support on Saturday. Foster was a popular figure at Southport and captained the National League side for two years. He led the club to a historic third round FA Cup tie at Championship side Derby County last month. However, he posted a message of social media to announce his departure from the club on Wednesday morning, citing disagreements with manager Dino Maamria. The 30-year-old, who has previously played for York City and Oxford United, said: “There's been a big change this week. I'm sorry to say I have officially left Southport football club. “I have loved my last two years there as captain of the club. “We had an amazing cup run which took us to nearly beating Derby and with a great set of players and staff from the chairman right down to the kit men. For the first time in my career I felt at home. “This week has been the strangest in my career. Completely out of the blue and after a few disagreements with the manager, I felt it was best to move on. “(I have) enjoyed working with every manger that's been there and that's the truth. Lastly, the fans who come every week and the ones who we see on those long trips have been awesome so keep that support.” The one-time England C international will challenge club captain Danny Ellis and veteran Dave McGurk for a starting spot in the Town back four.
